We are focused on teamwork and our people collaborate on all aspects of the business, working openly and with respect for each other, our clients and the market. Our culture is non-hierarchical and one where everyone is valued. We strive for excellence in everything we do.

The Shared Engineering team at XTX Markets design, develop and maintain infrastructure used by the firm.   We do not operate in technology silos, instead preferring to build small teams of infrastructure engineers who work as one to deliver integrated solutions across all areas of technology.

The variety of tech covered in the role includes operating systems, WAN/LAN connectivity, AWS cloud, storage, monitoring tools and configuration management.  Together these make up the platform on which our global post-trade and low-latency OTC trading systems are run, as well as shared systems used by all the firm.  This role is ideal for someone who is well organised, pragmatic and possesses expert skills in network infrastructure engineering whilst wanting to utilise and develop further tech knowledge outside of pure network engineering.

The team is responsible for engineering and supporting infrastructure and tooling with the overarching aim to transform to a clean, understandable system with self-service APIs and an ‘always-on’ approach. Some activities include:

  • Defining the direction of, supporting, and continually developing a high-performance trading network and datacentre infrastructure across multiple sites globally.
  • Mentoring other team members, enabling them to support and maintain the systems you develop.
  • Contribute to commercial discussions where third-party systems are involved.
  • Actively seek out new knowledge, technology and build your skills beyond network infrastructure.
  • Apply those skills in conjunction with good business sense to increase performance, simplify complex systems and/or automate processes.
  • Work closely with trading developers and heads of department in a genuinely collaborative fashion

  • You will likely have spent five-plus years working as a network engineer and have moved beyond core switching/routing into automating and monitoring everything possible by means of code and structured configuration.
  • You will be at home with open-source technology (especially Linux) and possess good relevant equivalent industry experience.
  • You will have advanced network engineering skills; at home on the CLI of Cisco/Arista switches and ideally aware of Juniper + other vendors.
  • You will possess advanced knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP.
  • You will have advanced knowledge of switching, routing (OSPF, GBP) and multicast (IGMP, PIM)
  • You will have worked with telco’s, dark fibre providers and other third parties, organising connectivity and troubleshooting as necessary.
  • You will be able to code in Python, Go or similar and will be familiar using tools like git.
  • You will be comfortable at the Linux command line, including shell scripting.
  • You are comfortable with network device configuration management using Ansible or similar tools.
  • You are comfortable taking on complicated projects with high levels of autonomy.
  • You work well in teams and can build solid relationships across teams and whole companies.
