XTX Markets is an award-winning financial trading company which specialises in electronic market making in equity, FX, fixed income and commodity markets. We trade in large volume on a significant number of the world’s trading venues and exchanges, entirely in an automated fashion, with our one hundred and fifty staff members initiating many millions of trades each day.

Our business process involves:

  • Quantitative Researchers developing algorithmic models that have a short time horizon, predictive capability for financial assets
  • Trading development groups translating this mathematical model into efficient runnable code
  • Automated post-trade activities herded by the Core Development group

The IT Infrastructure group provide a technology platform for the firm. We are a team of fourteen people looking after the trading, research and general computer environment. The scope of our responsibilities is maintaining the network, server operating systems, storage, enterprise applications, end user computing environment and datacentre facilities. We exhibit special expertise in large installation system administration, and high performance computing (optimising for latency and bandwidth) and automation. The position we have available is within our Support section who take specific responsibility for the design, build and upkeep of the end user computing environment.

  • Support the firm's staff in their use of the computer systems
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the JIRA support request system.
  • Day-to-Day maintenance and monitoring of various systems.
    These include but are not limited to: Active directory; Office365 Mail infrastructure; Video conferencing solutions; telephony)
  • Responsible for on/off boarding of staff.
  • Diagnosis and resolution of operational issues involving windows desktops; windows servers; Linux workstations
  • Writing and configuring automation tools that enable the team to work effectively at scale (e.g. automated builds, configuration management, patch and application deployment, observability and performance management)


  • Good A-level and degree results
  • Some demonstrated evidence of technical experience, preferably has technology as part of their job
  • 1-2 years' work experience in a professional environment

Technical Skills

  • Experience in administrator level access to windows systems (Active directory; Office 365; Azure AD;  windows 10 ; windows 2016/2019)
  • PowerShell scripting knowledge.
  • Familiarity with SCCM (application and OS deployment)
  • Some familiarity with the LINUX command line
  • Some familiarity with Python
  • Some familiarity with basic Cisco networking commands
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Very good at explaining technical elements

Example Tasks

  • Changing file permissions mastered in UNIX
  • Adding, changing and deleting user accounts
  • Follow up helpdesk request system
  • telephone support (not that we get many support calls)
  • Procuring server, desktop, printer hardware
  • Assisting with projects such as Windows OS upgrades.
  • Supporting and packaging a range of vendor software
